My name is, Anastasia Ophelia Cleopatra Morgan, and I consider myself to be quite lucky despite the seeming misfortune that has surrounded me most of my life. I live with my butler, Carson, and my nanny, Angela, in Blackthorn Manor just outside of the small town of Denmore. My parents died when I was very young, leaving me an heiress to their historical estate and large fortune. A fortune my uncle, Thaddeus Raymond Morgan, wanted to have full control over. Luckily, my parents were very smart, and my uncle would never be getting his hands on my inheritance.

Despite having the best nanny and butler in the world, I’ve never been good at making friends. My only friends were the ghosts of Blackthorn Manor until I met Cara. Cara knows that I’m different as soon as she meets me. Instead of avoiding or bullying me, she calls me her best friend. My friendless, lonely existence ends just like magic. Maybe it is magic.

When Cara tells me that I’m special, I scoff at the idea at first. Afterall, every orphaned child dreams of being special. It’s just too farfetched though. But as I start to connect the dots, I begin to realize that Cara might just be right about me. I don’t think I’m special, but there is something very different about me and I can feel it surfacing just under my skin.

On my thirteenth birthday, I begin to realize my true inheritance from my parents is something they left in my blood and not in their Last Will and Testament. Unfortunately, my uncle wants to control that too.
