Tired of living above a laundromat in a cramped, one-bedroom apartment, Trent Collins fantasizes of escaping the city of Denton Falls, longing for the open spaces and quiet surroundings of the countryside. Motivated by visions of daughter Olive standing in far-reaching fields amongst the tall sunflowers and swaying meadow grasses, Trent plans to take his family to the country and sell them on his small-town hopes.
Studying to become an EMT, Trent is determined to turn dreams into reality and create a better life, only one obstacle stands in the way, his deep seeded fear of dead bodies, a significant problem that keeps him from achieving his first responder aspirations… especially when body bags start to sit upright on ambulance stretchers. Trent soon learns that his fears about the dead aren’t what they seem… they’re way worse.
Forced into an unimaginable sacrifice, Trent must face his darkest horror and confront the monsters hellbent on destroying everything he holds dear.
In Trent’s words…
“The gates are closed. The afterlife wants nothing to do with us. I guess I can’t blame them. Look at the state of the world. It’s held together with string and scotch tape. Maybe they’re just as tired as we are. Maybe the angels don’t have the energy to rehabilitate our sorry souls. Maybe humanity has fallen so far from grace that even the demons are afraid and the devil has had enough. Only a monumental sacrifice will reopen the doors, but I’d rather die than complete the unforgivable atonement.”
