After the death of her father, Jesse Kincaid’s mother suggests moving to a new state to outrun the bad memories made in Utah and Colorado. Jesse agrees, believing her mother will make good on a promise to become closer to her.
Once in Lakin, Kansas, Jesse takes a job working on a farm owned by a gruff Cuban man named Brooklyn. As Jesse ingratiates herself into her new life, secrets come to light about who her mother really is. Now, Jesse must choose between keeping her mother happy or possibly finding the stability she never had before.
