My name is Morgan. I was just one of many individuals born in a remote and inopportune town where time seems to stand still. I’ve lived an unfair life, though the world isn’t entirely at fault for that. I’ve committed my fair share of mistakes which are all coming back to haunt me today, urging me to leave, though I fear where I must go now. As I pack up my belongings in this crummy apartment for the last time, I can’t help but reminisce over the past with these memories at my fingertips. But the doorbell rings, signaling that my time is up…
“Submerged” is a new-adult novel recounting the life of Morgan. It is a coming-of-age tale tackling several modern social milestones, such as the making and maintenance of friends, the conflicts between family expectations and personal desires, the struggles with gender and romance, the treacherous navigation through schools and careers, as well as the confrontation of life, death, and humanity head on. All topics are critically assessed from the eyes of a person born in a place where nothing seems to make sense, describing how restrictive social norms and preconceived goals can culminate to drown you into pits of irreversible despair and isolation.
Content guidance: this work is intended for young to new adult audiences, and mature themes are discussed.
