After the betrayal of a close friend, both Liddy and Will were forced to flee Mortalia. Their harrowing escape, made possible only by the sacrifice of a loved one, has left them broken and traumatized.
The transport to Cristes didn’t go as smoothly as they’d hoped. Liddy is fighting to overcome devastating injuries while struggling with guilt over the actions and decisions that led her to this point. Meanwhile, Will is torn between his loyalty to Liddy and his growing obligations to Cristes.
To make matters worse, Cristes is on the brink of war and the return of Liddy and Will has brought the added threat of the Witch right to its weakened doors. When Nick unveils his plan to prevent destruction and squash Mara’s plots of revenge, the leadership of Cristes finds itself divided, and so do Liddy and Will. Has no one heard that together we stand or divided we fall?
As the threat of war looms and the Witch draws nearer, Liddy and her friends must confront not only external dangers but also internal demons. Just when all hope seems lost, a world-upending truth is revealed, and the most prominent players must make a choice: save themselves or sacrifice their greatest desires for the realms depending on them. Sometimes a reckoning is the only path to redemption.
