Rainbow Quill Editing

August 3, 2023I am an editing professional with 17+ years of experience, beginning as an apprentice line editor. I progressed to acquisitions, executive editor managing a small team, and then 10 years as Editor-in-Chief for a small press where I oversaw 100+ authors, a team of line, content, and proofreading professionals, and managed the release of over 600 manuscripts.
After working for other houses for years, I decided in 2021 to go freelance with a very specific focus on the indie author. It can be expensive to publish a book, and so I attempt to place myself within a more doable range for the indie author. I’m here for your success, and mine.
I understand how to edit your craft without changing your voice, and what elements pertain to each. I am a tough editor, so be warned! 🙂 I am a strong proponent of POV maintenance (no head hopping), active voice, and the Oxford comma (see what I did there?). That is “fat” (you don’t need the word nearly as much as you think you do)! Do or do not, there is no “began to.” I adhere closely to the Chicago Manual of Style for editing guidelines as this is usually the preferred style for fiction works.
I offer content editing (sometimes referred to as developmental editing), which can be the first editing step once an early draft is completed. I also offer line editing, which is often the most detailed and intense editing step as this is when everything from grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, flow, voice, style, and storytelling elements are reviewed at a line-by-line level. And I offer proofreading, which should be the final stage before publication.
I have recently also added book formatting, which can be a standalone service or bundled with proofreading for a discount.
There is a quote request form on my Editing Services website page where you can request a more specific quote and let me know when you would need edits to begin. I do schedule out a few months.
