A teenage lesbian in the 1980s!

Growing up in Dowagiac, Michigan, Melody Mivshek knows she is different. She finds it difficult to make friends and prefers to be alone with her skateboard. Her quiet, unassuming life of solitude ends abruptly upon meeting Becky Valentine, a troubled transfer student from Detroit.
Once in high school, their friendship intensifies as they confide their innermost secrets to each other. When their feelings can no longer be denied, both Melody and Becky finally accept they are in love with each other. Keeping their relationship a secret, the young couple plan to leave for Florida after graduation, but their plan shatters as a string of tragic events tear them apart.
After an emotional breakdown, Melody sits alone in her room with a plan to commit suicide. Only love and acceptance can save Melody from herself but can she be reached in time?
