Bryony Best was born and raised in Portsmouth on the south coast of England. She currently lives on Hayling Island with her fiancé and their pet dog. Although the characters and events in The Girl from Pompey are fictitious, Bryony drew inspiration from her own life and her ultimately successful battle to overcome alcohol and drug addiction
